While Ramaphosa recovers from mild COVID-19 symptoms, Mabuza conducts business as usual

President Cyril Ramaphosa thanked South Africans for their support after testing positive for COVID-19 over the weekend.

“Thank you, fellow South Africans, for your good wishes following my positive COVID-19 result.” President Ramaphosa tweeted.

He urged South Africans, while recovering, not to let down their guard, saying they must do everything they can and need to do to be safe, beginning with vaccination.

President Ramaphosa is being treated for mild COVID-19 symptoms after testing positive for the virus on Sunday.

Mondli Gungubele, Minister in the Presidency, said President Ramaphosa started feeling unwell after leaving the State Memorial Service in honour of former Deputy President F.W. de Klerk earlier on Sunday.

According to Gungubele, the President is in good spirits, saying the South African National Defence Force Military Health Service is monitoring him.

He said the President, who is fully vaccinated, is in self-isolation in Cape Town for the next week and has delegated all responsibility to his deputy, David Mabuza.
