Makhado police Launch manhunt for heavily armed Suspects who ambushed police van, Freeing six prisoners

The police in Makhado have launched a massive manhunt for a group of heavily armed suspects.

This follows the attack and shooting at police van transporting six Zimbabwean nationals awaiting trial prisoners on Monday morning.

Limpopo Police Spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the suspects freed six prisoners and fled with them in a gray Mercedes Benz and white Toyota bakkie.

According to police the incident happened along the Vivo road next to the first Schoemansdal turnoff outside Louis Trichardt.

“All escapees are Zimbabwean nationals. The first five were arrested for aggravated robbery, three counts of attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. The last one was arrested for theft of cables,” said Brigadier Mojapelo.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe said she had ordered the mobilization of the necessary police resources, including the airwing to hunt down the escapees and the suspects.

Police have advised members of the community not to approach the suspects under any circumstances as they are considered dangerous but must instead call the police.

The escapees  pictured below are Forward Shumba 26, Shingirai Nyandome 32, Brilliant Sibanda aged 26, Erick Sithole aged 35, Moses Zambara aged 32and Alex Nkomo aged 35.
