Man busted at Butterworth Mall carrying male body part

A 32-year-old man appeared before the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday, charged with unlawful possession of human tissue.

According to KwaZulu Natal police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, the suspect had allegedly been apprehended by members of the public after they stumbled upon him in a shopping mall, supposedly looking for a ‘buyer’ with a male body part in his possession.

“Investigations have revealed that the male organ had been removed from a 68-year-old man in the OR Tambo District, who is now receiving treatment in hospital,” said Nkohli

He said the accused will soon be transferred to Mthatha –  expected to face an attempted murder charge.

Provincial police Commissioner, Lt General Nomthetheleli Mene has congratulated the community for taking the suspect into custody and has referred to the incident as a “despicable and cruel act,” one that must not go unpunished.
