A 49-year old man died in a hospital, after he succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. His wife is fighting for her life in hospital, after she was also shot through the stomach while screaming for assistance.
A horrific incident took place at the couple’s home in Edinburgh Trust outside Thulamahashe near Bushbuckridge on Tuesday night, police say.
Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga police, said the couple were transported to a nearby hospital, whereupon the husband died, while the wife was admitted in serious condition, receiving medical care.
Brigadier Mohlala said three armed men entered the couple’s house at approximately 7 pm and pretended their car had broken down and asked for water.
“While the child was helping the men, it is alleged the man abruptly approached the father who had been busy working on his car and shot him several times; furthermore, his wife screamed after witnessing what she had just happened and she too was shot,” said Brigadier Mohlala.
Brigadier said the suspect fled the scene in a white Volkswagen Polo without taking anything from the couple.
Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the provincial police commissioner, expressed concern over the sad news and commanded that the suspects be arrested as soon as possible.
“It is only matter of time before we catch the culprits and lock them up. We know very well that our community will help us bring those responsible to justice,” added the General.
