Man gets 100 years for raping stepdaughter

The KwaDukuza Regional Court on Tuesday sentenced the stepfather to 100 years in prison for raping his 15-year-old stepdaughter four times.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, a police spokeswoman, the victim’s ordeal began in August last year when the accused entered her room while her mother was not home and raped her.

“Her stepfather leapt into her bed as she was sleeping, waking her up. She pleaded with her stepfather to leave her room because she was terrified and traumatized. In the course of threatening her with violence, he overpowered her and raped her,” said Gwala.

Gwala said the accused continued raping the victim when her mother was not around.

“The victim was tired of suffering in silence, so she notified her mother, who reported the matter to Ndwedwe police. Upon receiving this report, the case has been transferred to KwaDukuza’s Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS) for further investigation.”

In August 2021, a detective went to the man’s home in Ndwedwe, arrested and charged him with four counts of rape.

Lt Col Gwala added that the man appeared in court multiple times before being convicted and sentenced to 25 years in prison on each count of rape on August 29, 2022.
