President Cyril Ramaphosa has written a letter to Constitutional Court Chief Justice, Raymond Zondo informing him he is considering appointing Mandisa Maya, President of the Supreme Court of Appeal, as his deputy.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) confirmed that Justice Maya accepted her nomination..
“Furthermore, on May 3, 2022, she submitted, the required JCS questionnaire and all the necessary documents for persons who wish to be appointed as a judge,” read the official statement.
The JSC invites law bodies, the public and all institutions with an interest in the work of the commission to submit written submissions, if any, on whether Justice Maya should be appointed Deputy Chief Justice and any other relevant information.
The Commission said Justice Maya would be invited for the second round of public interviews scheduled to take place, on July 5, 2022, to determine whether she is suitable for appointment as Deputy Chief Justice.
