African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Fikile Mbalula has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Pravin Gordhan, describing him as “a man, a cadre, and a servant of the people.”
Mbalula expressed profound sadness upon learning of Gordhan’s passing. “PG was cruel to be kind; he didn’t suffer fools, and with him, you knew where you stood,” he said.
Gordhan’s unwavering loyalty and mentorship shaped many careers, Mbalula noted.
While acknowledging that both praise and criticism will follow Gordhan’s passing, Mbalula referenced a Sepedi proverb: “dogs don’t bark at a stationary bike.”
Mbalula lamented that Gordhan’s demise came shortly after his retirement, depriving him of cherished time with family. “Death is a thief,” he said.
Despite acknowledging Gordhan’s mistakes, Mbalula emphasized his indelible contributions to South Africa’s freedom struggle. “He did more good than harm, and his actions were in good faith.”
In conclusion, Mbalula bestowed a poignant farewell: “May Your Soul Rest in Peace, cadre of cadres. A compatriot, a soldier, and a true vanguard of the revolution.”
