Defence Minister, Thandi Modise has issued a strong warning that the government will not apologize for the deportation of illegal foreigners.
“Yes, if you’re legal, come and stay with us. Ask for help if you’re not. We’ll see how we can help you if you have a problem and if we have to depot you. We’ll make no apologies for this, but please respect us, “said Modise.
“That doesn’t make us xenophobic.”
“But I think sometimes we are too shy to say that people crossing our borders legally and illegaly who reside among us don’t respect our laws, traditions, and culture. We are fed up, “said Modise.
“I will give an example that sounds like nothing. When I entered Tanzania in 1976, I was wearing a mini-shirt, which was illegal in Tanzania. “I couldn’t leave the airport until the ANC found me kanga to respect the laws of the country,” Modise said.
Modise told Police Minister, Bheki Cele, the truth is that most of the syndicates in South Africa are run by foreigners and “we are too ashamed to say that.”
“We have to pay close attention to what is happening in Orkney and Potchefstroom because of the systems which sometimes deal with matters that take away even water that is supposed to be routed to people and then blame the municipality,” said Modise.
Modise said there was nothing wrong with the police keeping mum about the nationality of the offenders.
