Modus operandi: Toy guns toting rapists-cum robbers jailed for a lengthy period

Thabazimbi District Court in Limpopo near Lephalale on Thursday sentenced a man  to 25 years in prison after raping a woman and robbing her cell phone and jewellery.

The torment occurred in May 2019 at Realogile township, Thabazimbi in the Waterberg district.

Limpopo Police spokesperson, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the 27-year-old woman was on his way to work when Matome Phineus Pheta, 31,  (pictured below) pointed a toy gun at her, drugged her into a nearby bush, and raped her.

Colonel Ngoepe said after raping his victim, Pheta robbed her of her cell phone and jewellery.

He said the court sentenced Pheta to 10 years imprisonment for rape and 15 years for armed robbery.

In a separate verdict, the Thabazimbi District Court sentenced Mpho Dineo Mokgweng 24, (pictured below) to 10 years in prison for rape and five years for robbery.

“The crime took place on April 28, 2019, when Mokgweng threatened a 17-year-old girl with a toy gun and forced her into a nearby bush where he raped her. The victim was attending a church service at Matlerekeng informal settlement when the assailant attacked her. “said Colonel Ngoepe.

Colonel Ngoepe said police arrested the two men after a lengthy police investigation.

Thabazimbi Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit investigated both cases in which the suspects use the same modus operandi.

“We are very pleased with the outstanding performance of our detectives who continue sending criminals torturing women and children to jail,” said Limpopo Police Commissioner. Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba.
