Health professionals are being reminded of their duty to report Mpox cases in a timely and detailed manner to ensure compliance with notification guidelines.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) stresses the importance of accurate reporting to effectively monitor and control public health threats.
Mpox, a category 1 notifiable medical condition, requires that suspected or confirmed cases be reported within 24 hours of diagnosis.
Failure to comply with these regulations can result in legal implications under the International Health Regulations, National Health Act, and Regulations Relating to Surveillance and the Control of Notifiable Medical Conditions.
Health professionals play a crucial role in the surveillance of NMCs by providing essential clinical information for accurate analysis.
By reporting Mpox cases promptly and comprehensively, they contribute to the prevention and management of this infectious disease.
The NICD urges health professionals to prioritise compliance with notification guidelines to protect public health and prevent the spread of Mpox.
“Failure to report cases can have serious consequences, highlighting the importance of timely and accurate reporting in the healthcare sector,” warned NICD.
