Mpumalanga cops swooped in on ‘human trafficking house’

The Ehlanzeni District Intelligence Task Team dealt a major blow to human trafficking syndicate by executing a surprise raid on a residence in Kamagugu, near Nelspruit on Monday,uncovering 19 Bangladeshi males being held against their will in a three bedroom house.
Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Police, revealed that the victims’ cellphones had been gathered together and put into one single plastic bag, indicating that they had no way of contacting either family or friends.
A 52-year-old Bangladeshi national , who served as the house keeper was arrested for human trafficking and is expected to appear in Nelspruit Magistrates’ Court soon
He declared that indictments for infringing the Immigration Act would be brought against the 19 Bangladeshi men found in the house.
Despite the early indications that some were intended for Middleburg and others for Johannesburg, Mohlala said “Investigations are still ongoing to find out the final destination and the ringleaders.”
Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, the acting Mpumalanga Police Commissioner, gave the team a pat on the back for their efforts.
