Mpumalanga DPP drops sexual asssault charges against Godongwana

Mpumalanga’s Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Nkebe Kanyane has decided not to press charges against Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Mpumalanga Spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, stated that the decision pertains to a sexual assault case filed against the Minister on August 11, 2022 at the Skukuza Police Station.

Nyuswa says the charges are related to an incident that allegedly happened on August 9, 2022, at a hotel in Skukuza, Mpumalanga.

“The decision for the DPP not to prosecute follows a thorough assessment of all available evidence and consultations with the complainant, who expressly did not wish to proceed with the case,” said Nyuswa.

She emphasised that the NPA’s commitment to aggressively prosecuting cases of sexual offenses and gender-based violence has not changed.
