JOHANNESBURG — Chinese automaker OMODA unveiled its C7 SUV in South Africa on Tuesday, introducing a mid-tier model bridging its C5 X Series and flagship C9.
The vehicle debuts with two powertrains: a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine (145 kW/290 Nm) and a plug-in hybrid (255 kW/525 Nm) offering 105 km of electric range, priced from R539,900 to R689,900.
The hybrid variant 18.4 kWh battery charges to 80% in 20 minutes via fast chargers, achieving 5.0L/100 km fuel efficiency and 30 g/km CO2 emissions.
Both models include Eco, Normal, and Sport driving modes, a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, and premium Sony audio systems.
Safety features span 21 driver-assistance technologies, including adaptive cruise control, emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and a 540-degree camera.
The SUV design emphasises a frameless X-grille, LED lighting, and 19- or 20-inch wheels, while its cabin offers up to 614 litres of cargo space and ventilated leather seats.
Backed by a 10-year/1-million km engine warranty and seven-year roadside assistance, the C7 targets South Africa’s growing demand for tech-forward, hybrid-ready vehicles.
Sales begin November 11, 2025, across OMODA’s 39 dealerships.
Hans Greyling, OMODA South Africa GM, said: “The C7 reflects our commitment to blending innovation with practicality for local drivers.”
The launch follows OMODA’s recent European expansion, with the brand now operational in 20+ markets, including the UK and Spain.
