Medupi Unit 4 attains Commercial Operation status

The Medupi Power Station in Lephalale is a green-fields coal-fired power plant comprising of six units rated in total at 4764 MW installed capacity.Construction activities commenced in May 2007 and the power station will have full installed capacity by 2020.Unit 5 was first synchronised to the national grid on September 8, 2016, reached full power (794 MW) on December 17,2016 and attained commercial operation on April 3, 2017.Unit 6 attained commercial operation on August 23, 2015 and was officially opened by the President Jacob Zuma on August 30, 2015.Once completed, the power station will be the fourth largest coal-fired plant and the largest dry-cooled power station in the world

Eskom rejects inquiry bribe allegations

Ethics Committee says in a satement it will institute investigations following allegations that State Security Minister Bongani Bongo has allegedly offered Advocate Nthuthuzelo Vanara a bribe to resign. Vanara is as an evidence leader in the inquiry into mismagement of state funds at state-owned enterprises. Speaker of Parliament Baleka Mbete says she personally took the affidavit from Advocate Vanara and handed it President Jacob Zuma to act on it.
