KwaZulu-Natal police once again express concern over baseless rumours and accusations surrounding ongoing investigation into the brutal murder of South African rapper, Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes, and his close friend, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane.
According to media reports source close to the investigation and not authorised to speak to the media the gun linked to the killing was recovered in uMlazi, south of Durban, at the weekend.
Ballistics have confirmed that the 9mm pistol was positively linked to the shooting incident that claimed the lives of the two men.
In a scathing statement, KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda called out on certain media houses to refrain from their reckless reporting and blatant disregard for the investigation process.
He warned that these sensationalist claims not only jeopardise the safety of the investigating team but also give the suspects an unfair advantage in complicating the case.
“Let us not forget the power of words,” he said, urging journalists to uphold the principles of ethical journalism and refrain from concocting unfounded allegations for the sake of sensationalism.
The police are committed to bringing justice to the families of the victims and will update the public accordingly when the time is right.
‘’Until then, police are calling for a more responsible and respectful approach to reporting on this tragic case,’’ added Col. Netshiunda.
