President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation at 8pm tonight in response to the recent development of the coronavirus pandemic.
The President’s address follows a consultation meeting held with the National Coronavirus Command Council on Sunday.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize last week confirmed South Africa has officially entered the second wave driven by a peak in infections in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and Gauteng.
Mkhize raised a concern that South African youths are the drivers of the new wave as the largest number of the new cases in the 15 to 19 age group.
“We have blamed the spike on numerous young people, some mobile attending parties including after tears consuming alcohol and moving from one place to another without wearing masks, not sanitizing and maintaining social distance,” added Mkhize.
