In a dramatic turn of events, President Cyril Ramaphosa apologized in Parliament for failing to deliver on his 2019 promise to build one million houses in Alexandra Township.
During the Questions for Oral Reply Session, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Commander-in-Chief Julius Malema pressed Ramaphosa on the status of the housing project.
Initially, Ramaphosa attempted to rewrite history, claiming he never made the promise.
However, after further interrogation by Malema, Ramaphosa conceded and apologized for misleading the people of Alexandra.
EFF National Spokesperson Leigh-Ann Mathys stated, ‘Even by his own distorted promise, Ramaphosa failed to meet his target of building one million houses nationwide over five years.’
Mathys emphasized that this apology confirms Ramaphosa’s presidency has been characterized by lies, false promises, and electioneering.
The EFF vows to continue fighting for decent housing in Alexandra, honoring the memory of slain activist and Councillor Moshe Mphahlele.
Ramaphosa still needs to apologize for various unfulfilled promises, including fixing the Hammanskraal water crisis, rebuilding railway infrastructure, addressing unemployment, and tackling Gender-Based Violence.
“The EFF remains committed to holding the Executive accountable and opposing regressive policies,” added Mathys.
