Police in Limpopo have launched a manhunt for suspects in a white Mercedes Benz sedan, connected to the murder of a prominent businessman, Aubrey Maponya, 43, and the attempted murder of his friend, at Motetema Village, on Saturday evening at 17h45.
According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, spokesperson for Limpopo Police, the businessman was shot and killed in a white Toyota Hilux whilst driving, with his friend, who was wounded during the attack.
He said Emergency Services personnel were quickly called to the scene, where the victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment; however, Maponya did not survive and his friend is being transferred to another medical facility in serious condition.
Col. Ledwaba said the motive of the attack is unknown, and investigations are underway to arrest the suspects.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the incident and is urging anyone with information to contact the police.
