The Randburg Magistrates’ Court has on Tuesday postponed the highly publicised case against Darry Wilken, 35, and his partner Tiona Moodley, 25, both accused of distributing child pornography to February 7, 2025.
Wilken was apprehended during a police raid at his Midrand residence on January 17, 2025, leading to a deeper investigation that subsequently linked Moodley to the alleged crimes, resulting in her arrest on January 25. Â 2025 in Houghton.
The couple faces an alarming array of charges, including possession, creation, and distribution of child pornography, violations of the Drug Trafficking Act, numerous money laundering counts, and possession of stolen property, among others.
Their arrests followed intelligence from international law enforcement agencies that identified a target operating in South Africa, which was relayed to the South African Police Services (SAPS).
The state claims that Wilken and Moodley were discovered with a considerable sum of cash, believed to be derived from their illegal activities.
Investigators from the Serial and Electronic Crime Investigations (SECI) team revealed that evidence suggests the duo was allegedly involved in the international hosting and distribution of child pornography for profit.
Police also confiscated electronic devices purportedly used by the pair in their operations, discovering over 10 million images and videos of child pornography.
In a dramatic twist, it is alleged that Moodley attempted to destroy crucial evidence related to their operation shortly after Wilken’s arrest, seemingly in an effort to downplay her involvement.
Senior State Advocate Colleen Ryan strongly opposed any bail requests during the proceedings.
The defense requested additional time to formulate a response to the state’s affidavit, which was prepared by the Investigating Officer.
