SA has not reported any COVID-19-related deaths in the last 48 hours

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported on Sunday that 828 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in South Africa, bringing the total to 3,732,075.

The increase represents a 5.3 percent positive rate.

The NCD is part of the National Institutes of Health, which continues to provide laboratory-based surveillance to inform South Africa’s public health responses to COVID-19.

This increase represents a 5.3% positivity rate.

The total number of death remains at 100 096 for the past 48 hours with no death reported.

Due to the ongoing audit exercise by the National Department of Health (NDoH), there may be a backlog of COVID-19 mortality cases reported.

A total of 24,060,151 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.

The majority of new cases were from Gauteng with 45 percent, followed by Western Cape with 25 percent, Kwa-Zulu Natal accounted for 21 percent, Eastern Cape accounted for 4 percent and Mpumalanga accounted for 3 percent, Free State, Limpopo, and North West each accounted for 1 percent and Northern Cape accounted for less than 1 percent.
