The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has released its latest report on COVID-19 in South Africa.
It shows that there have been 2,846 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3,726,928.
This increase represents a 13.4 percent positivity rate.
NICD is a Division of the National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS), which continues to provide laboratory-based surveillance to inform the public of health responses to COVID-19 in South Africa.
As a result of the ongoing audit exercise NDoH, says there may be a delay in reporting COVID-19 deaths.
The NDoH has reported that 16 deaths have been recorded on Wednesday, 8 of which occurred within the last 24 – 48 hours.
So far, there have been 100,211 deaths due to COVID-19.
As of today, there have been a total of 24,234 million tests conducted in both public and private sectors.
The majority of new cases were reported in Gauteng accounting for 46 percent, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 23 percent.
Western Cape accounted for 17 percent, Eastern Cape accounted for 6 percent and Free State accounted for 3 percent.
Mpumalanga and North West each accounted for 2 percent while Limpopo and Northern Cape each accounted for 1 percent.
