SA has recorded 889 new COVID-19 cases

The National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported 889 new COVID-19 cases discovered in South Africa on Sunday, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3,722,954.

This increase represents a positive rate of 5.3 percent.

NICD is a division of the National Health Laboratory Service, which continues to provide laboratory-based surveillance to inform the public health responses to COVID-19 in South Africa.

Due to ongoing audit exercises by the National Department of Health (NDoH), deaths are likely to accumulate on COVID-19.

The NDoH reported 4 deaths on Sunday, 1 occurred during the last 24 to 48 hours. This puts the overall number of fatalities at 100,050

A total of 23,909,698 tests were performed in the public and private sectors.

Gauteng leads with the majority of news cases, accounting for 42 percent, followed by Kwa-Zulu Natal accounting for 25 percent.

Western Cape accounted for 19 percent, Eastern Cape accounted for 5 percent, Free State accounted for 4 percent, Mpumalanga accounted for 3 percent, North West accounted for 2 percent, Limpopo accounted for 1percent, and Northern Cape accounted for 1 percent.
