SA has registered 9,757 new COVID-19 case

The National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), has reported 9,757 new COVID-19 cases identified in South Africa on Thursday.

The Institute reports that the number of confirmed cases has risen to 3 818 125 due to the new infections.

NICD attributes this increase to a positive rate of 25.9 percent.

The NICD, is a division of the National Health Laboratory Service, which continues to provide laboratory-based surveillance to inform the public health response to COVID-19 in South Africa.

The National Health Department (NDoH) reported 64 deaths and of these, 7 occurred in the last 24 to 48 hours. This brings the total to 100,471 fatalities.

A total of 24,592,030 tests have been performed in the public and private sectors, according to NDoH.

With 44 percent, Gauteng continues to be the leading province with new infections, followed by Kwazulu-Natal with 28 percent.

Western Cape accounted for 13 percent,  Eastern Cape 6 percent, Free State 5 percent,, Mpumalanga 3 percent, North West 2 percent, Limpopo and Northern Cape each 1 percent.
