The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported 1,678 new COVID-19 cases in South Africa on Thursday, bringing the number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2,902,672.
This increase represents a 4.1% positivity rate.
The NICD is the division of the National Health Laboratory Service, which continues to provide laboratory-based surveillance to inform the public health response towards COVID-19 in South Africa.
The National Department of Health reported further 101 COVID-19 related deaths in the last reporting cycle, bringing the total fatalities to 87,626 to date.
Both the public and private sectors have conducted 17,649,727 tests in the last 24 hours.
