SA has reported 40 deaths related to COVID-19

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), reports that 585 newly diagnosed COVID-19 cases were identified in South Africa in the last 24-hour reporting cycle, bringing the number of laboratory-confirmed cases so far to 2 927 499.

NICD is a division of the National Health Laboratory Service, which provides laboratory-based surveillance to aid public health in the fight against COVID-19.

The National Department of Health confirmed another 40 deaths associated with COVID-19, bringing the number of deaths to 89 555 to date.

Both public and private sectors have conducted 19 032 662 tests, according to the department.

According to the latest statistics, Gauteng has the highest number of new cases accounting for 33 percent, followed by followed by Western Cape with 16 percent.

Eastern Cape accounted for 10 percent, Mpumalanga 7 percent, Free State 6 percent, North West 4 percent, Free State 6 percent, North West 4 percent, Northern Cape 3 percent, and Limpopo accounted for 2 percent.
