The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has detected 8,515 new COVID-19 cases across South Africa in the past 24-hour.reporting period.
This brings the current number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3,316,585. The increase represents a positivity rate of 29.9 percent.
NICD, a division of the National Health Laboratory Service, provides laboratory-based surveillance to inform public health response to COVID-19 in South Africa.
Similarly, the National Department of Health confirms further 105 deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the total to 90,453.
Combined, 20,719,331 tests have been conducted in both the public and private sectors.
KwaZulu-Natal leads with 29 percent of new cases, followed by Gauteng with 22 percent.
Western Cape accounted for 19 percent, Eastern Cape 8 percent, North West 7 percent. Free State accounted 5 percent, Mpumalanga percent, Limpopo and Northern Cape each accounted for 3 percent.
