SA registered 1 475 new COVID-19 cases

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has on Tuesday reported 1 475 new COVID-19 infections in South Africa, which has brought the total number of confirmed cases to 3 743 682.

This increase represents a 9.9% positivity rate.

NICD is a Division of the National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS), which continues to provide laboratory-based Surveillance to inform the Public Health Response to COVID-19 in South Africa.

According to an ongoing audit conducted by the National Department of Health (NDoH), there may be a delay in reporting coronavirus deaths.

The NDoH has on Tuesday reported 14 deaths, and three of those occurred in the past 24 to 48 hour.

This increases the overall number of fatalities to 100,195.

A total of 2,412,994 tests have been performed in both the public and private sectors.

Gauteng has recorded the majority of new cases, accounting for 51 percent, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 23 percent.

Western Cape accounted for 13 percent, Eastern Cape, Free State, and North West each accounted for 3 percent.

Mpumalanga accounted for 2 percent and Limpopo and Northern Cape each accounted for 1percent.
