SA reported 108 deaths related to COVID-19

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported 2,106 new COVID-19 cases in South Africa in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of confirmed cases to 2,900,994.

The Institute is a division of the National Health Laboratory Service, which provides laboratory-based surveillance to inform the country’s response to COVID-19.

This increase represents a 4.6% positivity rate.

In the last reporting cycle, the National Department of Health reported 108 new deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the number of fatalities to 87,525 to date.

A total of 17,649,727 tests have been conducted in public and private institutions.

The majority of new cases are from KwaZulu-Natal, which accounts for 30%, followed by the Western Cape with 18%.

Gauteng reported 11%; the Eastern Cape and Free State accounted for 10% each.

The Northern Cape reported 9%; the North West 6%; Mpumalanga 5%; and Limpopo 1%.
