As tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate, South African Jews for a Free Palestine (SAJFP) is taking a stand against Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories.
In a bold move, the organisation is calling on the United Nations to support a draft resolution that could potentially change the course of history.
The draft resolution, based on findings from the International Court of Justice, aims to hold Israel accountable for its unlawful presence in occupied Palestinian territories.
SAJFP is urging all UN member states to vote in favour of the resolution, which demands Israel’s withdrawal from the region within 12 months and the imposition of trade and military sanctions.
Drawing parallels with South Africa’s own fight against apartheid, SAJFP stresses the importance of international solidarity in ending Israel’s occupation.
The organisation believes that global pressure, similar to that exerted on the apartheid regime in South Africa, is vital in promoting justice and freedom for Palestinians.
Prominent voices, including Palestinian-South African author Professor Haidar Eid and former Head of the ANC in exile Oliver Reginald Tambo, have also emphasised the necessity of sanctions in combating oppressive regimes.
SAJFP is calling on progressive forces worldwide to join in the fight against Israel’s occupation and apartheid in Palestine.
With the draft resolution set for a vote this week, the world waits to see if the UN will take a definitive stand against Israel’s occupation.
SAJFP remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting justice and equality for all, and urges others to do the same.
