Shoprite Group will launch its own mobile virtual network operator, k’nect mobile, next month, to offer its customers competitive prices and a variety of other rewards.
Group Managing Director: Financial Services, Jean Olivier, said the network is part of the Group’s financial services offering, and allowing customers to conveniently pay bills, purchase mobile phones, transfer money, airtime and data, lotto tickets, electricity including funerals.
In a statement on Tuesday, Olivier said the prepaid cellular network has partnered with digital activator FREI One Digital, and the roaming partnership with MTN supports Cell C’s mobile network infrastructure, providing award-winning coverage
“The main differentiator of K’nect mobile is simplicity with flat search and data rates and no complex layers. Release time, data packets, and rewards expire after only 60 days, rather than the more common 30-day expiration,” the Group said.
The grocery supermarket says that in a world where access to data is a must, this move also means that Shoprite is now truly a one-stop shop for its customers.
Customers using a k’nect mobile SIM card will also benefit from zero-rate data on apps, including selected Shoprite, Checkers websites, Money Market Account, Computicket website and the Group’s jobs portal, paying no data charges.

Offers speeds up to 1GB, 15c per megabyte, all day k’nect to k’nect, 99c per minute, all day calls to other networks., k’nect mobile.
It also offers free 10% Xtra reward on recharge for Savings card holders, 5% Xtra and Xtra Savings airtime reward on airtime deals when charging via Money Market account.
Other rewards include early access to Computicket events and tickets, and in-store RICA, and 100 MB free for Xtra Savings members for three months, subject to activation.
