South Gauteng High Court delivers blow to ANC in cadre deployment ‘corruption’ case

In a stunning victory for transparency and accountability, South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg has dismissed African National Congress (ANC)’s attempt to appeal finding of civil contempt in ongoing cadre deployment corruption case.

According to DA, the court’s decision, announced on Friday, marks major setback for the ANC’s efforts to shield its corrupt cadre deployment network from public scrutiny.

The ruling comes after the Democratic Alliance (DA) successfully challenged the ANC’s refusal to release critical documents related to cadre deployment.

DA National Spokesperson, Willie Aucamp, hailed the court’s decision as a win for all South Africans who believe in the importance of holding political parties accountable for their actions.

“Since forcing the ANC to release its cadre deployment records, we have uncovered politically motivated appointments that have compromised service delivery and professionalism within the public service,” said Aucamp.

The court also rejected the ANC’s application for leave to appeal, citing a lack of new evidence or grounds to challenge the previous decision. As a result, the ANC has been ordered to pay all legal costs on a punitive scale, reflecting the seriousness of their obstruction.

The DA has called on the ANC to abandon its “Stalingrad tactics” and fully comply with the court’s orders.

Aucamp emphasized the importance of uncovering the truth about corrupt practices that have undermined South Africa’s institutions and democracy.

“As a key participant in the Government of National Unity, the DA is committed to holding the ANC accountable and advocating for reforms that prioritize transparency and integrity,” said Aucamp.

He reaffirmed the DA’s commitment to dismantling the cadre deployment network and ensuring that the government prioritizes the needs of all South Africans.

“With a focus on accountability and good governance, the DA envisions a future free from corruption and dedicated to serving the people of South Africa,” added Aucamp.
