Suspected truck hijackers and armed robberies were arrested in the Johannesburg CBD

Two suspects believed be involved in truck hijackings and armed robberies will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Police Lt. Col. Mavela Masondo said two suspects, aged 33 and 44 were arrested on Thursday and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and signal jammers.

He said an investigation into criminals involved in truck hijackings and robberies in Johannesburg had led police to a block flats in the CBD where two suspects lived.

“A team consisting of the Soweto crime intelligence unit and the Johannesburg metro police raided a block of flats in the Johannesburg CBD, where two suspects were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and signal jammers their apartment.”

He said two suspects had been arrested and charged with unlicensed firearms and signal jammers.

Lt. Col. Masondo said the weapons would be sent for ballistic tests and the suspects would be profiled to establish if they are involved in other serious and violent crimes.
