Police are looking for Elias ‘Malankane’ Matsieng to assist with the investigation after Saturday’s horrific murder of a middle-aged man in Marapong Township, Lephalale.
Limpopo police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the victim, a 35-year-old man, was stabbed and stoned to death near the Tavern, then his body was burned before the suspects fled the scene.
Brigadier Mojapelo said police are calling for Matsieng to report to the nearest police station as it is believed that he may be able to assist in the investigation of this ghastly incident.
According to unconfirmed reports, three young men drugged the victim out of the tavern and began stabbing him several times with knives on the road circle at Extention 1, Marapong Township on Saturday at around 6 pm.
“Two of the suspects went to buy petrol, while the other one continues stabbing him until he died. They soaked the victim’s motionless body in petrol and set it alight,” a source added.
Police identified the dead man as Jaffta Moatshe from Kauletsi Village in Ga-Seleka.
“The motive for the incident is unknown at this stage,” Brigadier Majapelo said.
Brigadier Mojapelo said Acting Limpopo Police Commissioner Major General Jan Scheepers has ordered a 72-hour activation plan to track down the suspects.
