In Molapomogale, Kameelpoort, near Vaalbank, a 17-year-old boy is accused of raping his 54-year-old aunt, multiple times sparking concerns about the moral decline in contemporary society.
Police say a major issue in today’s society is moral decline.
In a statement on Saturday, Mpumalanga Police Spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli said the aunt told authorities about the incident after she finally snapped and reported the abuse she had been subjected to.
According to Col Mdluli, the suspect’s nefarious activities began between April 2022 and early September 2022.
There is also the allegation that the victim repeatedly asked the perpetrator to stop the abusive behaviour, but that he did not comply despite the fact that he was aware of her pleadings.
The Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS) was given the case after the victim reported the incident to the police, according to Col Mdluli.
He stated that an investigation was carried out, and on September 22, 2022, the suspect was taken into custody.
On Friday, the suspect appeared before the Mbibana Magistrate’s Court, and the case was postponed until Monday.
The teenager was remanded into custody.
Mpumalanga Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has expressed concern about crimes that go unreported and take place behind closed doors.
The police chief urged women to “speak out” about the widespread problem of gender-based violence.
Col. Manamela emphasized the importance of everyone’s involvement in the pandemic-fighting effort.
