Phagameng Township in Modimolle is reeling in shock following the discovery of a 23-year-old missing young woman’s body found buried in a shallow grave next to a railway line.
Limpopo police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said that the motive for the murder is unknown at this stage, but gender-based violence (GBV) cannot be ruled out.
He said police in Modimolle are investigating the brutal murder of Kgomotso Maropola who was reported missing on Sunday March 6, 2022 at Phagameng.
“In response to the missing person report, search operations were initiated with the help of members of the local community.
The search operation was intensified, involving the Search and Rescue Unit, a K9 unit, local police, and community members,” said Brigadier Mojapelo.
Mojapelo said the deceased’s body was later discovered in a shallow grave near the railway line.
Acting Provincial Police Commissioner Major General Jan Scheepers has called on community members to assist the Police in their investigation by providing information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect.
“In the face of the scourge of Gender Based Violence on all fronts, incidents of this nature demand joint efforts to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice as quickly as possible, said Major General Scheepers.
