The E-Class Sedan raises the bar with a major facelift

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan arrives in South Africa this month to boast a set of new standards with an even more dynamic design, sporty aura, and increased levels of interior comfort.

The new E-Class is a repetition of the best-selling model series that has upped the bar in Mercedes-Benz history, as many have considered it “the heart of the brand” that has delivered more than 14 million units since 1946.

The E-Class Sedan is produced at the sophisticated Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen plant, and it comes from the same production line as Mercedes-Benz CLS and Mercedes-AMG GT four-door coupe.

This will give South African motorists a choice of two models at launch time, either derivative of the E200 or the E220d.

Johannes Fritz, Co-CEO and CEO of Mercedes-Benz South Africa, said that E-Class customers are among the most loyal fans of the Mercedes car, adding that eight out of ten E-Class Sedan customers remain loyal when purchasing their next car.

“The 10th generation E-Class set the design trends in 2016 with its clean, emotionally attractive design and exclusive high-quality interior. It proved to be very successful thanks to its wealth of innovation in areas such as driving assistance systems, attracting more than 1.2 million customers around the world buying the current generation E-Class sedan. “Our latest comprehensive facelift builds on that platform to offer the most advanced E-Class sedans to date,” said Fritz.

The new E-Class front fascia facelift with additional chrome content, two chrome vents, and high-gloss black vertical struts provide a sporty and elegant look that means business.

The rear of the sedan has been updated with a new bumper, split taillights, and a new boot lid.

The interior is more comfortable with a new steering wheel for touch control, large standard displays [2 x 10.25 inches], and Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) from the latest generation of multimedia systems.

MBUX includes the now-familiar “Hey Mercedes” voice control and augmented reality that displays additional information, such as house numbers, in the surrounding video image.

The new E-Class features Urban Guard, which provides comprehensive parking monitoring including collision damage warning, towing, and theft protection.

The next generation of driving assistance systems

The new E-Class has the latest generation of Mercedes-Benz driving assistance systems.

Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, with speed adjustment based on the lane, recognizes and responds to rear traffic and slow traffic even before the driver even realizes it.

A traffic jam is detected (and if the driver does not choose a different response), DISTRONIC reduces the speed to about 100 km / h as a precaution.

Other innovations include

Active Tailback Assist, which can greatly assist the driver in maintaining a lane and maintaining a safe distance at speeds of around 60 km / h, with a high degree of availability.

The new Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC + continues the luxury business

The latest Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC + features an all-around facial refinement but continues the proud tradition of presenting the coolest super-beautiful sedan on South African roads.


The E 63 S 4MATIC + has a sportier look than ever before, with an impressive body design.

To create a significantly more dynamic look, it has AMG’s large radiator grille, flat multi-beam LED headlights, distinct wheel arches that widen to fit larger tyres, and a round bonnet with a powerful dome.

Major changes have also been made to the interior with a wide-screen cockpit, a new AMG high-performance steering wheel, and an MBUX infotainment system.

At the heart of the new Mercedes-AMG E, 63 S 4MATIC + are a 4.0-liter V8 bi-turbo engine with a twin-scroll turbocharger to provide 450 kW and a maximum torque of 850 Nm enough to complete a 0-100 km / h race Fast in 3.4 seconds, using a total fuel consumption of 11.9-11.6 l / 100 km.

The interior design combines great ambiance with premium quality materials and exceptional performance AMG.

AMG seats are upholstered in Nappa leather, and individually adjustable ambient lighting is standard.

Thanks to a special spring, damper setting, and adaptive damping system S, the new three-chamber air suspension combines typical driving dynamics with excellent tire-vibration characteristics on the road.

The stiffness of the air springs can be adjusted over a wide range by energizing or deactivating the individual air chambers, which significantly increases comfort and handling.

The adaptive damping system can be adjusted in three stages – Comfort, Sport, and Sport + – to choose between comfortable ride comfort on long journeys and extreme sports.

Drift mode

The Mercedes – AMG E 63 S 4MATIC + is equipped with an AMG Performance 4MATIC + 4WD engine as standard.

This intelligent system combines the advantages of different driving concepts: torque distribution to the front and rear axles, which changes completely for the first time, ensures optimum traction on any surface.

When Drift Mode is activated, the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC + becomes a purely rear-wheel-drive vehicle. Drift mode remains on until the driver deactivates it again.

With up to six DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs – Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport +, Individual and RACE (standard on the S edition), the characteristics range from efficient and comfortable to extremely sporty.

Modes adjust key parameters, such as the response of the engine, transmission, suspension, and steering.

Aside from the driving programmes DYNAMIC SELECT, the driver has the option to shift directly to manual mode, whereby gear shifts are performed exclusively with the paddle shifters located on the steering wheel.
