The new Hyundai Grand i10 has style, flair, space, feature list and road behaviour that belies its compact size.
In terms of fuel economy and price, it meets two very important criteria for an entry-level car buyer.
With its youthful dynamic design, complete safety package and first-class connectivity, the i10 offers Hyundai customers many functions that are not available in a car this size.
The automaker builds the Grand i10 in India and exports it to 87 countries around the world.
India has an export market of 1.15 million third generation Grande i10s, while South Africa sold 49,252 from 2014-2020.
“This is the best-selling Hyundai Automotive in South Africa and has a very important position for the local market on our models from the Hyundai range.
Apart from the COVID-19 crisis and the increasing number of competitors, we are still playing an important role in the current economic climate, ”said Stanley Anderson, Sales and Operations Manager at Hyundai Automotive South Africa.
The Grand i10 will grab your attention with its bold looks and modern design visibility.
Sturdy body, beautiful appearance, spacious interior and extensive technical data. Wait until the new Hyundai Grand i10 proves it. Despite its compact size, it still gives you a better driving experience,” said Anderson.
The new LED daytime running lights and fog lights (in fluid version) combine with an elegant grille to give the new Grand i10 a bold look on the road.
The bumpers and door handles have a body colour. It has a molded black grille and trimmed mirror.
The Grand i10 Motion version also stands out from its Fluid siblings with 14-inch steel wheels with eye-catching finishes, while the Fluid derivative is fitted with light alloy wheels.
The 1-liter fluid version has 14-inch alloy wheels, and the 1.2-liter fluid derivative has 15-inch alloy wheels with a unique design.
Grand i10 buyers can choose from five case colors: polar white, ghost black, typhoon silver, titanium gray, and fiery red.
The liquid version offers two additional colour options: polar white and a fiery red body with a black roof.
Comfort and “Big Car” units
The liquid version includes heated side mirrors, multi-function steering wheel, synthetic seat covers with thick red stitching and rear parking aids.
The driver’s seat is adjustable in all slopes and the rear seat tilts forward – as a full seat for lowering and in a 60:40 split for the fluid version.
In all derivatives, passengers can stay cool for the rear passengers thanks to the manual air conditioning system with ventilation slots.
The carmaker equips all versions of the Grand i10 with an infotainment system with a 6.2-inch touch screen, displaying Apple CarPlay or Android Auto when there is a connection to the smartphone via cable to the USB port on the system interface.
A second USB port at the bottom of the center console allows the charging of suitable devices.
The new Grandi10 seats offer a relaxed and comfortable ride for all passengers.
Reinforced front seats offer superior comfort for the driver and front passenger, especially during cornering, and reinforced rear seat support ensures optimal comfort in long journeys and cornering.
The flat bench in the rear seat comfortably accommodates three passengers.
Designers have given the seat better thigh support for a comfortable long ride.
Two petrol engines, manual and automatic transmission
The 3-cylinder engine with a capacity of 998cc powers the new Grand i10 series and a slightly larger Kappa 4-cylinder engine with a capacity of 1,197 cc.
The 1-liter engine, used in motion and fluid derivatives, produces a peak output of 49 kW at 5,500 rpm, and a maximum torque of 94 Nm at 3,500 rpm, while the 1.2-liter capacity sibling, which powers the two Fluid versions, reaches its peak output of 61 kW at 6,000 rpm, and a maximum torque of 114 Nm at 4,000 rpm.
Even at the incredible altitude in Gauteng, the 1-liter engine provides enough power for 5-speed manual transmission. There is also a choice of 4-speed automatic transmissions for the 1 liter and 1.2-liter Motion and Fluid derivatives.
The fuel consumption of the Grand i10 with a 1-liter engine and a 5-speed manual transmission is 5.4 liters per 100 km, while the same engine combined with a 4-speed automatic transmission produces 5.9 liters per 100 km at a time. A test cycle that combines city and open road driving.
The Grand i10 Fluid 1.2 liter with 5-speed manual transmission and 4-speed automatic transmission records fuel consumption of 5.9 liters per 100 km and 6.9 liters per 100 km.
MacPherson strut with shock absorbers is used for the front suspension and the connected torsion bar, also with shock absorbers, is used for the rear suspension.
All new versions of the Grand i10 are available with front passenger and driver airbags, complementary ISOFIX child seats on the rear seats, and front belt tensioners.
Advanced Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) are standard features on all derivatives.
