The SABC launches its new streaming service, the SABC Plus

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) on Thursday launched its long-anticipated (OTT) over-the-top streaming service that delivers content over the internet 24/7.

The Public Broadcaster said the platform, SABC plus streaming app would provide the finest that the SABC has to offer including 19 radio stations and 3 free-to-air television channels SABC 1, SABC 2, SABC 3, including Sports and a 24-hour news channel.

The SABC said the streaming service will feature a variety of local and international content, to extend the Corporation’s mission to inform, educate and entertain citizens, everywhere, anytime.

The SABC said it was excited to announce the launch of the streaming service, which is the first public media platform in Africa that is available to all citizens across multiple platforms.

The SABC plus is an app for smartphones and other mobile devices that gives users access to the latest news, live streaming of radio and TV channels, as well as access a collection of archived content.

SABC Group Chief Executive Officer, Madoda Mxakwe said SABC plus signals a new digital era for the public broadcaster and a key accomplishment in addressing universal access for all citizens.

“SABC plus also presents a growth path to enhancing our value offering to clients and customers to build a strong foundation for future financial sustainability of the SABC”, added Mxakwe.

The SABC says it has partnered with Hisense to bring football fans in South Africa an array of World Cup-related programming for free on the Hisense VIDAA Smart TV and mobile app.

The companies will distribute the SABC plus app through the Hisense VIDAA Smart TVs and mobile devices in time for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 on November 20 2022.

Together, these two powerhouses promise to will bring 28 matches of the FIFA World Cup and the official FIFA World Cup show daily, for FREE.
