The second suspect linked to a robbery at Lephalale mayor’s house arrested

The police said they have made another breakthrough in their investigation on the robbery and assault that occurred at the private residence of Lephalale Mayor, Jack Maeko in February.

Limpopo Police Spokesperson, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed they arrested the second suspect on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old female suspect will appear in Phalala Magistrate’s Court on April 9, 2021, while her accomplice, Antonio Lucas Joao, arrested in Springs, Gauteng shortly after the robbery will apply for bail at the same court on April 15, 2021.

“The suspects were arrested following an incident in which four armed men and two women went to the mayor’s house at his home village in Moong, Ga-Seleka and demanded to see him.

Before the guard manning the gate could respond, the thieves attacked him, then tied everyone up in the house before searching it, “Colonel Ngoepe said.

The robbers stole Toyota Legend 45 and the car was later found abandoned along Lebu road near Tomburke outside Lephalale.

The suspect fled in three cars, a Toyota Fortuner, the VW Polo, and the unidentified car.

Colonel Ngoepe said a manhunt for the remaining suspects is still underway.

Anyone with information that can lead to their arrest may contact Colonel Malesela Mogale at 071 479 2329 or the crime stop number 0860010111 or the nearest Police Station or MySAPSApp.
