Toyota is dominating the automotive industry with an impressive 12,233 units sold in August, resulting in a market share expansion to 26.8%.
This is a remarkable 2% improvement from the previous month and a significant increase from last year’s 23.6%.
Even in a declining market, Toyota outperformed the industry, which saw a fall of 3.1% from the 47,155 vehicles sold in August 2022.
The Hilux continues to lead the pack with 3,309 units sold in August, representing an 11% increase from July.
Additionally, a whopping 6,863 Hilux units were shipped out in August, contributing to the LCV segment’s 10% share of total motor vehicle sales, with Hilux occupying a dominant 2.5% slice of the overall market.
Toyota is not only dominating the LCV segment but also holding its own in the passenger car space.
The Corolla Cross and Starlet both pulled off podium finishes with 2,130 and 1,372 sales, respectively. Toyota’s commitment to providing consumers with eco-friendly options, most notably the Corolla Cross and the Lexus range, is bearing fruit in the passenger space.
Toyota South Africa Motors Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing, Leon Theron, expressed his sincere gratitude to loyal customers, the dealer network, and staff for their continued support and exceptional performance.
But Toyota isn’t just dominating the LCV segment – they’re also holding their own in the passenger car space.
The Corolla Cross and Starlet both pulled off podium finishes with 2,130 and 1,372 sales respectively. Just falling shy of the passenger top ten are Fortuner, Urban Cruiser, Corolla (Hatch, Sedan and Quest) and Vitz, which all recorded notable performances.
About parts supply – Toyota distributed 1,559,906 pieces locally and exported a further 313,582 pieces to foreign markets.
“Another consistent performance in a declining market sees Toyota extend its lead in the sales race with a year-to-date monthly average of 11,797 units retailed – the only automaker to break through the 10,000-unit barrier,” said Theron.
In addition, he said Toyota’s commitment to providing consumers with a multitude of eco-friendly options, most notably Corolla Cross and the Lexus range, is bearing fruit in the passenger space.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to our loyal customers and our dealer network for their continued support and exceptional performance. And, of course, not forgetting our staff – your resilience, adaptability and willingness to take on challenges has been instrumental in our success, “added Theron.
