University of Limpopo lecturer gunned down while jogging

A suspect who reportedly shot and murdered a 51-year-old University Lecturer while jogging is being sought by police.

Professor Saber Tayob Mohammed, a lecturer at the University of Limpopo and a chartered accountant, was slain while jogging along the Munik road in Polokwane’s Sterpark suburb on Sunday morning.

Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, a spokesperson for the Limpopo police, said a suspect was driving a white VW Polo.

“A white VW Polo drove past him and then made a U-turn. The car stopped next to the victim, the passenger got out and shot at the victim several times at point blank. A suspects quickly fled the scene,” said Brigadier General Mojapelo.

He said the motive for the murder is unknown at this stage.

Maj. Gen. Jan Scheepers, the acting provincial police commissioner, has appealed to members of the public with information to come forward and assist with the investigations.
