The Congolese doctor’s practice has taken a turn for the worse after he was charged with rape and sexually assaulting his patients.
“On August 15, 2022, the 17-year-old victim allegedly walked into the accused’s surgery for a consultation and was raped during a medical examination. He is also accused of sexually assaulting a 25-year-old patient during a medical examination on April 20, 2022, at his surgery.”
In the wake of police investigations, a veil of secrecy had been lifted exposing him as a ‘corn artist’ who was illegal in South Africa as well as without documentation to support his alleged practice.
According to Northern Cape National Prosecuting Authority Spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane, Kimberly’s alleged doctor, Ilunga Kalasa, 38, will face additional charges of contravening the Immigration Act and Health Professions Act.
Senokoatsane said the two additional charges were brought after police investigations found that the accused was working in South Africa as a medical practitioner without having the prescribed medical professional documents or being registered with the HPCSA.
He said the prosecution informed the court about additional charges that were brought against the accused during his brief appearance in the Kimberley District Court on Wednesday, where he is being charged with rape and sexual assault.
The case has been postponed to January 10, 2023, for the Director of Public Prosecution’s (DPP) decision.
Senokoatsane said police Investigations are continuing.
