Volvo Car South Africa is electrifying the market with its new EX30, leading the charge and dominating the EV scene with a staggering 46% share of South Africa’s electric vehicle market.
The EX30 has become the country’s best-selling electric car, accounting for almost a third of total EV sales in the first four months of 2024.
With a starting price of just R775 900, the EX30 is one of the most accessible fully electric cars in South Africa, appealing to a wide range of buyers looking to make the switch to electric.
Alongside the EX30, the Volvo brand’s C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge have also made significant contributions to its impressive market share.
Greg Maruszewski, Managing Director at Volvo Car South Africa, highlights the EX30’s role in driving the growth of the local EV segment, stating that without it, sales of fully electric vehicles in the country would have been flat.
The XC40 Recharge, SA’s best-selling EV in 2023, takes second place behind the EX30 in the current market.
Volvo’s success extends to the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) category, with the XC60 Recharge plug-in hybrid and XC90 Recharge plug-in hybrid accounting for over 20% of all sales in this class.
Every derivative in Volvo Car SA’s line-up features some form of electrification, aligning with Volvo’s commitment to a zero-emission future.
With ambitious goals to have half of its global sales volume comprising fully electric cars by 2025 and all new vehicles sold being electric by 2030, Volvo is leading the charge towards a greener automotive industry
