VW Golf 8 GTI, launched last year, now comes with Clark Plaid Jacara fabric seats with a check pattern design – crossed horizontal and vertical lines forming squares.
The classic checked pattern was designed by Gunhild Liljequist, the first woman to work in Volkswagen’s design department.
In terms of a sporty colour, black was definitely a good choice for Liljequist, however, she was also looking for another choice that had a powerful and sophisticated effect, so she chose red.
In addition, that marked the beginning of what is now referred to as the ‘Clark Plaid’ pattern, which is still available in the Golf GTI 8 generations later.
Golf 8 GTI Jacara Edition is now available at Volkswagen dealers and retails for R16 700 less than the Golf GTI derivative with leather seats.
