A 39-year old Zimbabwean woman was arrested on Wednesday near Sekonye village, Botlokwa for trying to smuggle hijacked car into her native country through Beitbridge border post.

Limpopo Police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said in an effort to stop cars from being smuggled into neighbouring countries, ever-alert police officers intercepted and pulled over the driver of a Toyota Prado on Wednesday morning, north of Polokwane along the N1 freeway near Botlokwa.

“We discovered that the car had false registration numbers and upon investigating we found out the vehicle valued at R400.000 was stolen earlier this month at Randburg in Gauteng” said Colonel Ledwaba.

He added that when questioned, driver did not give a satisfactory explanation for his action and she was immediately arrested on suspicion of having a stolen vehicle.

Colonel Ledewaba said the suspect, believed to be a Zimbabweans national, will appear before Morobeng Magistrate Court soon on charges of possessing a stolen vehicle.
