Police and the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) are investigating theft of a camera SD Card containing images of the former President Jacob Zuma while being admitted as an inmate at Estcourt Correctional Centre in KwaZulu-Natal.
DCS spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo, said the images were stolen from a camera used to take Zuma’s photos for institutional use.
“So far, the internal investigation has revealed that this SD Card may have been shared clandestinely with a known broadcaster. The department will approach the relevant institutions for further action, “said Nxumalo.
According to Nxumalo, removing the SD card from a camera is an extremely sensitive matter.
Nxumalo said the DCS and the police are investigating the matter, adding that an official involved has also been considered for suspension.
He said the DCS is outraged by the widespread distribution of these photographs on social media and urges people not to share them.
“We condemn such action in the strongest possible terms and will leave no stone unturned in bringing those responsible to justice,” added Nxumalo.
