In a surprising turn of events, former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Chairperson, Advocate Dali Mpofu, has made a significant shift in South Africa’s political landscape by joining the uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party.
This move follows the footsteps of other high-profile departures from the EFF, including Deputy President Floyd Shivambu and Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
Shivambu, who himself joined the MK Party in August 2024, welcomed Mpofu with open arms, praising the movement’s exceptional ideological and organisational capacity to unite progressive forces in South Africa.
In a tweet, now X, Shivambu described Mpofu as capable, disciplined, hardworking, and selfless, highlighting his valuable addition to the party.
In an exclusive interview with SABC News, Mpofu expressed his belief that the MK Party is the key to achieving unity and emancipation in South Africa.
“After a lot of soul searching, I’ve taken a decision that I will be joining MK… I’m joining MK because I believe that it is the vehicle through which we will achieve the much-needed black and progressive unity,” Mpofu stated.
As a senior counsel who has represented the official opposition in various legal matters, Mpofu’s decision to join the MK Party underscores the ever-shifting alliances in South African politics.
His involvement in the party’s legal challenges in recent months showcases his dedication to the movement’s goals.
