JOHANNESBURG – The National School of the Arts (NSA), South Africa premier institution for performing and creative arts, will hold its Open Day on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 08:30 to 13:30.
This annual event provides prospective learners with a unique opportunity to explore the school’s vibrant environment and gain insight into its specialised pre-professional vocational training programmes.
Visitors will enjoy guided tours, observe rehearsals for upcoming productions, participate in mock auditions, and interact with educators and current students across the school’s four disciplines: Dance, Drama, Music, and Visual Arts.
As a publicly funded institution under the Gauteng Department of Education, NSA combines focused arts training with a rigorous academic curriculum, preparing students for both artistic excellence and strong academic outcomes.
The first term of 2026 will launch under the theme “Origi-Nation,” celebrating South Africa’s rich creative heritage.
Artistic Director Brenda Sakellarides expressed gratitude for the support from the National Arts Council and the Presidential Economic Stimulus programme, emphasising the school’s commitment to nurturing innovation and artistic voices.
The Open Day will also preview exciting upcoming productions, including “Kinétre – The Origi-Nation,” a physical theatre showcase featuring the Grade 12 drama class, and “Dance Spectrum – The Origi-Nation,” showcasing works by prominent choreographers.
Both productions highlight the school’s dedication to fostering young talent and creativity.
Principal Salome Gaelesiwe invites families to experience the NSA’s dynamic atmosphere, where passion meets discipline.
Spaces for admission are limited, and interested families are encouraged to attend to learn more about the audition process for specialised arts training.
