In response to disappointing results in the 2024 general elections, the African National Congress (ANC) is set to overhaul the provincial executive committees in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
Eyewitness News reported on Monday that the party’s national leadership reached this decision during a two-day national executive committee (NEC) meeting over the weekend, where they weighed options including disbandment and reconfiguration.
With the ANC losing its majority in these crucial regions, Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula announced at a media briefing on Monday afternoon that the party had opted for a reconfiguration. He emphasized that this decision reflects the party’s highest decision-making authority between conferences.
Mbalula also mentioned that the specifics of this reconfiguration plan will be finalized within the week, signaling a proactive approach to regain the party’s footing in the provinces.
