Potholes plague Marapong: DA calls for urgent action on Relebogile access road

Last updated on 2025-02-23

In a pressing appeal to restore road safety, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced plans to contact Lephalale local municipality Mayor, Aaron Mokgetle, to intervene in the dire condition of the Relebogile access road in Marapong township.

DA Councillor for Lephalale Municipality, Esrom Setho, expressed deep concern over the road’s deteriorating state, which has been neglected for years.

According to Setho, pothole-ridden pathway is not just an inconvenience but a significant threat to driver safety and vehicle integrity.

“The dilapidated condition of Relebogile access road often forces drivers to veer into oncoming traffic or risk driving off the road, heightening the chances of accidents,” Setho warned.

He emphasised the road critical role in the community, catering to a high volume of traffic, including scholar transport, commuters heading to Lephalale, and vehicles ferrying workers to Medupi power station, Exxaro mine, and other local businesses.

“The plight of this road underscores the municipality’s failure to uphold essential infrastructure and their nonchalant attitude towards the safety of road users. The DA has consistently voiced our concerns within the municipal council,” he stated.

Setho assured residents DA will hold the municipality accountable, advocating tirelessly for safe road infrastructure and pledging to keep close watch on the situation.
